Andrew Neyman is a 19-year-old drummer, dreaming of greatness but unsure if his dream will ever come true. He attends a cutthroat music conservatory and practices at all hours of the day, but he's haunted by the failed writing career of his father and wonders if he has what it takes to leave a mark. Then he meets Terence Fletcher, a larger-than-life music instructor with a very particular teaching style. Under Fletcher's ruthless direction, Andrew begins to pursue perfection at any cost – even his humanity.

"Marches to the beat of its own drum… Lands with a bang… There just aren’t enough musical clichés to describe Whiplash. A masterclass in technique, power and rhythm, it stings and sings like nothing else." -Total Film
"Whiplash is, at its core, about jazz -- that smoothest, mellowest of American art forms. But don't let that fool you. Writer-director Damien Chazelle's impressive sophomore effort is about as rock 'n' roll as a movie about jazz can possibly be." -New Orleans Times
