In the 50 years since its original release, THE WICKER MAN has achieved true cult status as one of the most revered horror films in cinema history and a masterpiece of folk horror.
The story follows Sergeant Howie (Edward Woodward), a devoutly Christian police sergeant who travels to a remote Scottish island to investigate the disappearance of a young girl. Upon his arrival, Howie discovers that the inhabitants of the island practice a pagan religion and are preparing for their annual May Day festival. Meanwhile, the pagan locals frustrate his investigations by claiming the missing girl never existed.
THE WICKER MAN is also much celebrated for its influential soundtrack, composed by Paul Giovanni and overseen by Gary Carpenter, featuring haunting, psychedelic reworkings of traditional British folk songs.
